Shopian, Budgam: 1 Kg Charas Seized; Two Drug Peddlers Arrested

On Monday, police recovered over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers during separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts. The concerted efforts highlight law enforcement’s commitment to combating the illegal drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Shopian, police acted on specific intelligence and registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act. They secured a search warrant from the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, to conduct a raid.

A team, led by the SHO Zainapora along with the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, executed a raid at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a local resident of Humhuna Nagbal. During this operation, officers seized one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine, suspected to be used for processing contraband.

Police stated, “The accused remains absconding, and efforts are underway to arrest him.”

In another significant operation, a police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The individual, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, was discovered in possession of 101 grams of charas-like substance.

A fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, was subsequently registered at Police Station Zainapora, as officials work diligently to dismantle drug networks.

Meanwhile, in Budgam, police arrested another suspected drug peddler during routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The individual, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora, was found carrying 112 grams of a charas-like substance.

A case, FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Chadoora. Investigations continue as authorities aim to curtail the rising drug menace affecting the society.
