PATNA, Nov 14: In a significant turn of events, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has established a robust lead in the early trends of the Bihar Assembly elections, securing leads in 166 out of 243 seats. This marks a decisive advantage over the opposition INDIA bloc, which trails with leads in merely 59 constituencies. According to the Election Commission, the NDA is well above the crucial majority mark of 122 seats.
The current figures show potential for change as numerous rounds of counting remain. Despite the INDIA bloc’s challenges, the election landscape could shift further as results continue to be tallied throughout the day.
Within the NDA coalition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads in 72 seats, while its allies, the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), have secured leading positions in 71 seats. Other partners in the NDA, including Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), trail with leads in 18 and four constituencies respectively, while the Rashtriya Loktantrik Morcha (RLM) is ahead in one seat.
In contrast, the INDIA bloc appears to be struggling. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leads in 43 seats, followed by Congress with eight, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation (CPI(ML)-L) in six, and both the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) with leads in one seat each.
Notably, candidate performances vary widely among key players. RJD’s Khesari Lal Yadav currently trails in Chhapra, while BJP’s Maithili Thakur shows a strong lead in Alinagar. In Ragunathpur, Osama Shahab of the RJD holds the lead, and JD(U) minister Leshi Singh leads in Dhamdaha.
Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav, maintains a favorable lead in Raghopur. Other prominent figures from the alliance, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, also demonstrate leads in their respective constituencies of Tarapur and Lakhisarai.
Despite a hopeful start in certain regions, Tej Pratap Yadav of the RJD finds himself in a challenging position, currently holding fourth place in Mahua as LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh leads the constituency.
The final results will likely shape the political landscape of Bihar for the coming years, potentially leading to shifts in alliances and governance strategies as the counting progresses.
