Vibrance Hub: Student’s Project-Based Learning Initiative

COIMBATORE — Rithanya Sivaram, a Class 12 student at The Indian Public School, has launched Vibrance Hub, a platform that fosters project-based learning while integrating wellbeing practices, aiming to bridge a crucial gap as India prepares students for a future dominated by AI.

In an enlightening statement, Sivaram said, “In the age of AI, information is commoditized. What matters now is what you can make, how you think, and whether you can sustain creative work over time.” She added, “Atal Tinkering Labs have given students the tools and space to tinker at a national scale. Vibrance Hub provides the scaffolding, community, and wellbeing practices to turn interest into sustained making.”

Utilizing MIT’s Lifelong Kindergarten framework—Passion, Projects, Peers, and Play—Vibrance Hub acknowledges that maker education transcends mere production. It focuses on cultivating critical skills such as computational thinking, resilience through iteration, and effective collaboration—abilities that remain irreplaceable by artificial intelligence.

Children initially engage with challenges through fearless experimentation. However, standardized testing over time often diminishes this confidence. This pressure creates caution, self-criticism, and a fear of attempting new tasks without a guarantee of success. The innate creativity that flourishes in childhood can vanish under the weight of practicality and perfectionism.

The launch of Vibrance Hub symbolizes a return to India’s educational roots. Historically, before the introduction of Macaulay’s Minute on Education in 1835, which dictated a rote-learning system for producing clerks for colonial administration, India’s gurukul tradition emphasized experiential learning. Students actively engaged in subjects, such as metallurgy through forging, astronomy by observation, and medicine via practice.

The National Education Policy 2020 echoes this maker-centric revival, recognizing the need for a future sustained by innovators and creators, rather than mere repeaters of information. It stresses the importance of a hands-on approach in nurturing creativity in education.

In line with this philosophy, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), founded in 2016 by NITI Aayog, represents India’s most ambitious initiative to operationalize modern maker-centric education nationwide. AIM directly responds to the NEP 2020’s directive, actively creating infrastructure that encourages hands-on learning throughout the country.

By launching Vibrance Hub, Rithanya Sivaram aims to inspire her peers and future generations to embrace creativity and innovative thinking, which are essential in navigating an AI-centric world. This initiative stands as a beacon for students to transcend conventional learning methods and embrace an enriched, health-focused educational experience.
