Vande Bharat Train to Extend from Jammu to Srinagar Soon

The Indian Railways has officially announced the much-anticipated extension of the Vande Bharat Express, currently running between Katra and Srinagar, to commence from Jammu. This upgrade aims to bolster regional connectivity, especially for commuters, pilgrims, and tourists.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed that preparations are in full swing for this extension. “We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” Kumar stated in a recent briefing.

Recent floods and incessant rains caused significant disruption to railway infrastructure, delaying the timeline for the extension. However, sources indicate robust recovery efforts are underway. Kumar assured that restoration work is progressing rapidly, and the service will launch once all necessary safety clearances are secured.

The Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service, introduced earlier this year, has notably reduced travel time between the Valley and the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine base camp. The extension from Jammu is poised to enhance this service further, making the journey more convenient.

Once the Jammu–Srinagar route becomes operational, the Vande Bharat train will likely operate daily, setting a new standard for travel comfort. Commuters can expect a significantly shorter journey compared to traditional rail and road options currently available.

The extension not only serves the local population but also aims to boost tourism in the region. Enhanced accessibility to scenic destinations in Jammu and Kashmir will cater to both domestic and international visitors.

Railway officials believe the upgraded service will alleviate traffic congestion and offer a faster alternative for those making the pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi as well as for tourists exploring the picturesque landscapes of the region.

As preparations advance, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive impacts this extension will bring to Jammu and Kashmir’s transportation network. The Railways is committed to making travel more efficient while supporting the local economy through improved connectivity.
