RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat firmly reiterated that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) remains dedicated to its core mission of ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building) during the centenary celebrations held at the annual Vijayadashami function in Nagpur on Thursday.
Bhagwat’s address aimed to encapsulate the conclusions drawn from the organization’s century-long journey. He asserted that, despite various temptations and invitations to enter the political arena, the RSS remains committed to its foundational values over the past 100 years.
“India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook,” Bhagwat remarked, sharing his insights about the gradual reforms necessary within the global order. He envisioned a framework deeply rooted in dharma that India could offer to the world.
Delving deeper into the concept of dharma, Bhagwat explained that this principle transcends conventional worship and rituals. It symbolizes the connective fabric that links diverse cultures and communities. He proposed that social transformation can be achieved through the embodiment of values such as integrity, selflessness, and social leadership, which are actively promoted within RSS shakhas.
“Over the last century, the RSS has been tempted and invited into politics multiple times, yet our resolve has been unwavering in focusing solely on shakhas and character building,” he emphasized, reiterating the importance of vyakti nirman as a pathway to sustainable social change.
Bhagwat highlighted India’s rich diversity in languages, faiths, lifestyles, and traditions, urging citizens to view this pluralism as a collective strength. “All communities, regardless of their faith, contribute to the larger Indian identity,” he stated, calling for harmony and mutual respect between different groups.
In a robust critique of violence and communal discord, he insisted that law enforcement agencies must operate with unbiased diligence to uphold the sanctity of peace within society. He urged the youth, in particular, to remain vigilant and organized, actively intervening to protect harmony when required.
As RSS celebrates its hundred years, Bhagwat’s emphasis on vyakti nirman not only reaffirms the organization’s principles but also presents a vision for India’s future—one rooted in social responsibility and inclusive development.
