RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool Imtiaz convened a critical meeting today focused on enhancing disaster preparedness and coordination at the Sub-Division Level. The meeting aimed to review strategies for natural hazards including floods, landslides, and cloudbursts in the area.
The meeting drew attendance from key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, Naib Tehsildar Inktikhab Ahmed, and representatives from various departments such as the Health Department, PMGSY, and Police.
This session served as a platform to evaluate the existing disaster management framework, assess the readiness of teams and equipment, and review the supply of essential commodities. The SDM urged all departments to remain vigilant as the monsoon season approaches, highlighting the need for continuous monitoring in areas susceptible to landslides and flooding.
Imtiaz stressed the necessity of proactive responses and effective inter-departmental cooperation to ensure swift handling of potential emergencies. He directed the Jal Shakti, PWD and PMGSY departments to pinpoint vulnerable locations and maintain response teams armed with necessary machinery.
Furthermore, the Health Department received instructions to stock relevant medications and maintain ready access to ambulances and medical personnel at CHC Gool and other Primary Health Centres. The FCS&CA department was tasked with ensuring adequate supplies of ration, while the Power Development Department (PDD) was directed to secure backup power arrangements.
In a bid to reinforce community safety, the SDM ordered regular inspections of at-risk areas by Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars. He encouraged them to compile comprehensive lists of disaster-prone zones and to promote public awareness about safety protocols during disasters.
The role of the police and the 23 RR battalion became critical, with directives to enhance support in rescue and evacuation operations. The Beacon agency was also urged to enable rapid road recovery in case of blockages due to the adverse weather conditions.
The SDM reaffirmed that preserving lives and properties remains the administration’s top priority. “Effective coordination, prompt action, and public collaboration are essential in mitigating the effects of disasters,” Imtiaz stated. He ensured that the administration stands ready to address any challenges arising from natural calamities.
