Doda, November 08, 2025: In a remarkable display of efficiency, Doda Police cracked a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of its filing. The police arrested two suspects linked to the incident and successfully recovered the stolen vehicle.
On November 5, 2025, a complaint reached Police Station Assar, lodged by Omair Ullah Wani, who reported that his motorcycle, registration number JK06A-6107, had been stolen from the Jathi area. The police took immediate action, registering FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following the direction of SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a special investigative team was formed. This team, led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh and supervised by DySP DAR Doda and SHO Police Station Assar, began the investigation diligently.
By early November 6, investigators detained two suspects based on actionable leads. Under rigorous questioning, both individuals confessed to stealing the motorcycle during the night of October 26.
The accused were identified as Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, known for his criminal record and evasion of law enforcement, and Munish Kumar, a resident of Bali Chanalra Bhalesa in Doda.
Scrutiny of their past led to the revelation that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer is a habitual offender with a history across various jurisdictions. His criminal activities include multiple thefts and burglaries that span various states.
Authorities highlighted the alarming number of FIRs against him, detailing crimes such as theft, burglary, and drug-related offences. Among his notable past cases, he faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police reported that Tariq had been evading capture for an extended period and was wanted in several districts, including Reasi, Udhampur, and Kangra. His criminal activities have garnered attention not only locally but also across state lines, prompting law enforcement to categorize him as a significant threat to public safety.
The effectiveness of Doda Police in this operation underscores their commitment to enhancing security in the district. As emphasized by SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta, the force aims to take decisive action against repeat offenders.
