On Thursday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved a crucial used water management project in Jammu and Kashmir, including a Rs 19.99 crore sewage treatment plant for Ganderbal town in central Kashmir. This initiative aims to improve public health, maintain cleanliness in rivers, and bolster sanitation efforts across the region.
The J&K government emphasized that the project focuses on effective treatment of used water, which is vital for safeguarding the environment and ensuring sustainable development. According to the Chief Minister’s office, the sewage treatment plant will play a key role in addressing the region’s growing water management challenges.
In another significant move, the J&K government approved a scheme to introduce heritage courses under the skill development department. This scheme aims to revive seven traditional craft courses across 25 units operating in government ITIs and polytechnics.
With an expected intake capacity of approximately 500 students, the program will also provide stipends for trainees and honoraria for instructors. This initiative not only preserves the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir but also promotes skill-based livelihoods among the local youth.
“This scheme is a step towards preserving heritage and promoting skill-based livelihoods in J&K,” said a government spokesperson. The introduction of these courses reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing local crafts and ensuring that traditional skills continue to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy.
