The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls commenced today at the University of Jammu. This event, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, aims to promote athletic talent among young girls from various schools.
On the opening day, around 300 girl athletes represented an array of government and private institutions, showcasing their skills in multiple track and field events. The atmosphere thrived with enthusiasm and determination, as each participant aimed to secure victory for their respective zones.
In the highly competitive discus throw events, gold medals were awarded to exceptional performers. Sweety Devi from Zone Marh clinched the gold in the U-19 category, with Konika Chib of Zone RS Pura taking silver, followed closely by Renu from Zone Bishnah who secured bronze. All eyes were on the U-17 category as Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari dominated, leaving Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal with silver and Nirjala of Zone Bishnah completing the podium with bronze. The U-14 title went to Subhana from Zone Satwari, while Sonakshi of Zone Miran Sahib and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor took silver and bronze respectively.
The excitement continued with the 100m races, where Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah won gold in the U-14 category. The U-17 race saw Nishta Sharma of Zone Jammu finish first, while Shivani from Zone Jammu emerged victorious in the U-19 race, demonstrating remarkable speed.
In the 400m events, Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal emerged as the winner in U-14, while Nishta Sharma again stood out by dominating the U-17 category. The high-stakes, high-energy competition continued in the 300m race, where Mehak of Zone Jammu took home gold in U-19, and Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal triumphed in the U-17 class.
The high jump events featured remarkable performances as well. Shriya Bhagat from Zone Chowki Choura won in the U-14 category, while Rohika Devi in U-17 and Payal Kumari in U-19, both from Zone Chowki Choura, claimed their respective gold medals.
Officials from the DYSSO Jammu, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, Harsimran Singh, and others, presented medals to the top performers, applauding their hard work and commitment.
In their remarks, these officials congratulated the winners and encouraged all participants to embody the values of dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
