Former President Ramnath Kovind lamented on Thursday that “good people” are refraining from politics, calling upon the youth to engage actively in the nation’s political framework. Speaking at the annual Vijayadashmi rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Reshimbagh ground, Nagpur, Kovind emphasized that politics should be a domain where principled individuals contribute meaningfully.
Kovind commended influential figures such as RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for significantly shaping his perspectives on society and governance. He expressed, “I was inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony shared by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar. There is no casteism and discrimination in RSS.” Such foundational beliefs, he explained, equipped him with a clearer understanding of his responsibilities towards society and nation.
Addressing the gathering during the centenary celebrations of the RSS, which was established by Hedgewar on the auspicious day of Dussehra in 1925, he urged young Indians to step forward into politics. “My appeal to the youth is to be active in politics. Our nation needs your energetic involvement, for only then can we hope to see the governance we desire,” Kovind asserted.
Highlighting the importance of collective efforts, Kovind also revealed that he is in the process of writing a book titled ‘Triumph of the Indian Republic’. He stated that the book would encapsulate the journey of India since its independence and the ideals that have driven its growth. He hopes to inspire the younger generation to understand the importance of their role in shaping the future of the nation.
Kovind’s remarks resonate with the current political landscape, where many believe that integrity and goodwill are often sidelined.
