Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of the ‘Make in India’ initiative during a recent address, celebrating its 11th anniversary on Thursday. Since its launch, the initiative has played a crucial role in advancing India’s economic landscape, steering the country towards self-reliance and sustainability.

“It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,” PM Modi stated on X, emphasizing the initiative’s comprehensive impact on the economy.

The Prime Minister reminisced about the ambitious vision that the Make in India initiative implemented 11 years ago, aiming to accelerate India’s growth while harnessing the entrepreneurial potential of its citizens. He remarked, “This initiative has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, creating a global impact.”

Modi stressed the need to further boost indigenous production, urging stakeholders to rally behind the government’s vision. He declared, “India must focus heavily on becoming a ‘Swadeshi’ economy in its upcoming journey,” underlining a commitment to empowering local manufacturers and businesses.

During the event, PM Modi inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025. He spoke about the government’s efforts to streamline business operations, announcing the removal of numerous unnecessary compliance regulations. “The government aims to make India a manufacturing hub. We desire to manufacture everything from chip to ship within our borders; to facilitate this, we stress your ease of doing business,” he stated, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for entrepreneurs.

To this end, PM Modi revealed significant steps the government has taken, including the abolition of over 40,000 compliance requirements and decriminalization of more than a thousand laws. “We are standing with you shoulder-to-shoulder,” he assured the business community present.

As ‘Make in India’ commemorates 11 years of implementation, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the achievements in indigenous defence production sparked by the initiative. “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production, reflecting the success of the Make In India initiative,” he remarked on X.

The day also marked a significant advancement in India’s defence capabilities with the successful launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based Mobile launcher system, capable of striking targets up to 2,000 km away. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the agencies involved in this crucial project, celebrating it as a testament to India’s growing manufacturing prowess.
